The original-language label tells you about the production. The subtitle and audio menus tell you about the edition you are playing. Keep these two pieces of information separate when choosing a film in a language you do not speak.
Before the opening scene
On the viewing service, inspect available audio and subtitle tracks. Choose original audio with subtitles if you want the original performances, or a dubbed track when offered. Captions may add sound descriptions and speaker cues beyond translated dialogue.
When text is hard to read
Look for size, contrast and background controls in the player or device accessibility settings. A comfortable setting on a phone may be too small across the living room. Test a short scene before settling in.
When sound and words disagree
Confirm the selected edition and track. A dubbed soundtrack can phrase dialogue differently from a subtitle translation, while a delayed track is a separate timing problem. Use the player's supported controls or try another offered track. Do not assume every viewing app supports the same adjustments.
